NFL world reacts to Derek Carr announcement

The final NFL preseason game is a team's last opportunity to perform a "dress rehearsal" before the regular season begins.

As a result, it is not uncommon for teams to give their starters a few snaps to ensure they are ready to start the season.

But it doesn't appear that the New Orleans Saints will do that with new quarterback Derek Carr.

During his most recent news conference, New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen confirmed that Derek Carr will not play in the team's final preseason game against the Houston Texans on Sunday night.

"Dennis Allen confirmed that Derek Carr will not play this week," New Orleans Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill wrote on Twitter.

The Saints' choice is rather surprising, given that Carr is new to the organization and is likely still forging chemistry with the offense.

Carr appeared in only one preseason game for the Saints,

going 6-of-8 for 70 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs in the team's first preseason game. That will be Carr's only live reps until the regular season starts.
