'Moana 2' trailer: Watch Auli'i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson in the sequel

Disney released the first trailer for "Moana 2," the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 animated hit, on Wednesday.

Auli'i Cravalho voices Moana again, and Dwayne Johnson voices Maui.

The plot-light trailer depicts Moana embarking on another maritime journey after her elders summon her to "sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean.

The sequel's water animation, involving Moana floating in front of a whale shark, is beautiful in the new trailer.

The clip contains Moana's pig Pua and rooster Heihei. After fans questioned why Pua stayed behind in the original film despite featured prominently on the poster, Pua appears to be joining Moana this time

In the teaser's finale, Johnson's Maui triumphantly appears on Moana's boat and says, "Why didn't you bring the pig last time?"

Considering cartoon sequels are usually disclosed years in advance, Disney's confirmation in February that a "Moana" sequel was in development and scheduled for release later this year was unexpected.

Prior to its transformation into a feature film, it was in the works as a Disney+ original streaming series.
