Diddy assault video cements hip-hop icon's collapse

Despite his apology after the leak, Sean "Diddy" Combs' videos of him kicking Cassie Ventura while she lay lifeless on the floor sealed his demise.

"I don't see a path for him to come back from this," said hip-hop culture expert Amy DuBois Barnett, former Ebony editor-in-chief.

Combs' industry reputation was "chequered for some time," Barnett said. "Many people were aware of his pretty unbridled temper."

Combs—formerly P Diddy, Puff Daddy, or Puffy—is one of the most successful and praised performers of all time, with three Grammy Awards and millions of album sales.

Nothing slowed his ascension to musician, producer, and businessman icon status for years.

Barnett said the sector had terrible stories, but most were hidden.

Ms. Ventura resolved her rape and human trafficking lawsuit against Combs for an unknown amount last November.

But Combs' lawyer said the deal "in no way an admission of wrongdoing".
